Encore! is a mixed voice choir of about 65 singers. We perform at least twice annually, Christmas and Spring, and are happy to perform at charitable events in York Region.
The choir has been singing together since 1988-ish. Until the spring of 2015, we were pleased to be sponsored by the York Region District School Board (YRDSB) and were known as YRDSB Staff Singers. With the loss of that sponsorship, we re-grouped, forming two separate and distinct choirs. “Encore!” is the larger choir, and “Take Note” a much smaller singing ensemble. Together, we share the extensive music library built under the leadership of all of the previous conductors and past membership of the YRDSB Staff Singers.
Encore! is presently directed by Deirdre Lawrence Hons. B. Music (Western University), M. Sacred Music (University of Toronto).
Our accompanist is George Vandikas B. Music (University of Toronto), M. Music (University of Toronto).
We perform classical, jazz, folk, spirituals and show tunes. New members are welcome. The ability to read music is helpful, but not required. No auditions are required.
